Book Talk- pt.2 Outlander

Hey Dolls,So this week I want to talk about the book Outlander By Diana Gabaldon (not so much the series as I haven't read them all yet!). The series is eight books long but once I have read them all I will do another post on them all together. How I came across the series was I recently flicking through shows to watch and came across the show Outlander.
The show is amazing. Any type of period drama and I'm sold. The story line was so gripping that it made for excellent television. After I finished the show, I was dying to find out what was going to happen next. Naturally, I set straight into reading the books.

General Overview: Set in the Scottish highlands in 1945, the protagonist Claire Randall is on her second honeymoon with her husband Frank. The two head to Scotland after spending most of the past five years apart because of the recent war. Where Claire worked as a field nurse and frank in intelligence. Things take a turn on the weird side when Claire happens to fall through time via ancient standing stones and lands in 1743. Its here she meets a bunch of highlanders who basically kidnap her and take her back to castle leoch. The rest of the book follows her through the eighteenth century and her attempt to get back to her own time.

I find this poster for the TV show hilarious!

The book is well written, even though some of it is written in the Scottish dialect and can be a wee bit difficult to understand at the beginning. Note: Ken is Know. That was the only one that troubled me for a while. The story line makes it a real page turner, impossible to put down. When its quite a work I go into the bathroom and read a few pages, that's basically how good it is. Not only is it gripping but it has me laughing aloud at points in the book. One of the characters Jamie is described as having a good sense of humor and it translates so well that you actually feel like its him telling the joke/story in front of you. By this alone you can tell that none of the characters are one dimensional.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Outlander and I've just started Dragonfly in Amber so I'm excited to see where the story goes. Let me know if you have read the Outlander series and what you thought of it.until next time,Em. x
